Plans call for 93 apartments with ground-floor retail space.

At its meeting next week, the Santa Ana Planning Commission is scheduled to consider plans for a mixed-use affordable housing complex from non-profit developer National CORE.
The Legacy Square development, which would rise at 609 N. Spurgeon Street in Downtown Santa Ana, would replace two church structures with a four-story building featuring 93 residential units, 7,267 square feet of ground-level "flex" space, and a 2,576-square-foot community center. The mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments - including some two-story townhome units - would be served by at-grade parking accommodations for 102 vehicles.
The apartments are to be priced for households earning 60 percent or less than the area median income, with 33 units to be set aside as permanent supportive housing. The affordable housing makes the project eligible for density bonus incentives.
SVA Architects is designing Legacy Square in the contemporary and Mission Revival styles, with open space planned through an interior courtyard and a street-facing public plaza. Proposed finishes would include smooth stucco, brick veneer, and metal.
The project was approved yesterday by the Santa Ana City Planning Commission, and will next be considered by the Santa Ana City Council.
Legacy Square will rise adjacent to a proposed station on the Santa Ana Streetcar line at Santa Ana Boulevard and French Street.
