According to President and CEO Dr. Rick Martens, Ed.D of the Anaheim Family YMCA, serving Anaheim, Stanton, Cypress and La Palma, they are excitedly anticipating opening their new Community Complex. After several years of challenges, former Anaheim Family YMCA board member and Camp Fox summer camp participant, Dr. Martens, took on the role leading to the construction going on today.
Located at 1422 West Broadway in the City of Anaheim, the scheduled opening is February 2021. The 1st phase development includes six lighted ‘state of the art’ soccer arenas, restrooms, on-site parking, a programmable multi-use activity lawn and a central game plaza. This begins to accommodate the Y’s diverse programming needs and is welcomed by the local and regional community. A 20,000 SF pad remains ready for the next phase as an indoor educational and activity lab.
For the ‘Y’ it has been a long haul – from locating land in partnership with the City of Anaheim to working through funding with Assembly woman Sharon Quirk-Silva of the 65th Assembly District and securing a 5-million-dollar grant through California State Parks. This, in addition to the generous donations of private individuals and corporate sponsors, makes up the working construction budget.
In partnership with the ‘Y’ and under the direction of its Board of Directors and staff, ima provided program feasibility, site planning, facilities design including hardscape, engineering and landscape documentation and worked closely to develop a facility best accomplishing part of their mission to provide a place of safe and healthy community activity. Converting a Brownfield Site into a modern Community Complex in a park setting to benefit in particular the youth of the surrounding communities ima is proud to have supported the Anaheim Family YMCA.
