Fountain Park is the first residential project to be built at Playa Vista, a new community just south of Marina del Rey. It is a three story, on podium collection of apartment homes ranging from studios to three-bedrooms, with common gardens and landscape amenities promoting coastal living while respecting adjacent waterfowl habitats. Meeting a tight schedule and budget, the 10-acre (4 hectare), 710- unit project presented numerous challenges to the landscape architects. While implementing innovative solutions to the technical design for hardscape, drainage and irrigation, the landscape displays numerous garden varieties with year-round seasonal color. Perennial flowering plants provide a lush rich feel, and many sustainable concepts were implemented including water efficient plant material and irrigation design, solar heating of pools and arrangement of spaces and deciduous trees based upon solar orientation.
