Ha Long Bay, or bay of the Descending Dragon, is often touted by proud Vietnamese as the world’s eighth wonder. The picturesque bay has more than 3,000 limestone islets rising from the clear emerald water. The bay and its picturesque coastline attract nearly three million visitors annually, but Ha Long City and the surrounding villages and communities have little appeal as a multi-day destination. Plans for Ha Long Bay feature multiple districts and venues including a new 346 acre (140 hectare) town center, which will seamlessly blend with the existing Ha Long City in a comprehensive, historical, and cultural tourism master planned destination. The master plan blends hotel, recreation, entertainment and shopping districts, while preserving the seaport’s historic core, including its series of religious shrines.
The master plan includes: a three-hotel resort district and a nearby 18-hole championship golf course with splendid views of the bay. A shoreline village will offer strolls along the bay. The district’s retail, restaurant and entertainment elements complement the resort’s tropical architectural style please both local and international guests by evoking Asian and European influences.
