Rob Moffat is a principal with ima, and from individual commissions to complex urban projects that contribute to the public realm, Moffat’s mastery and attention to detail ensures every ima project is responsive, distinctive and memorable.
Moffat leads ima’s Entertainment and Themed Entertainment Practice and directs design or collaborates on more than $2 billion of new entertainment and themed-development, including national and international destination resorts across three continents. His latest work, DXB Entertainment’s $500 million Motiongate Dubai is the largest theme park in the Middle East. Moffat worked with intellectual property artists and location-based entertainment specialists at Dreamworks, Sony, Lionsgate and Columbia Pictures to create highly stylized themed environments across the park’s 40-acres to immerse and entertain resort guests. He provides expert client counsel and design achievement from entitlement feasibility to grand opening to ensure every project respects and enhances brand identity while contributing to the park’s architectural character and guest experience.
Urban property owners, college campuses and leading hospitality developers also have tapped Moffat for his expertise in public planning and passion for pedestrian engagement. Under Moffat’s leadership, ima provides the critical links, plazas and passages that attract visitors and contribute to the public realm across multiple real estate investment asset categories, including urban mixed-use, multi-family, commercial, hospitality, recreation and destination retail uses.
In addition to his professional engagements, Moffat is committed to the multi-disciplinary discourse and advancement of landscape architecture and public realm design. He has lectured and taught at Cal Poly Pomona, College of Environmental Design and Texas A&M University. He recently led a “21st Century Intelligent Urbanization” panel for CIFTIS Beijing.
A graduate of Austin E. Knowlton School of Architecture at The Ohio State University, Moffat earned his BS in Landscape Architecture. After working with Walt Disney Imagineering and EDAW, Moffat joined ima in 2002. He is a member of the International Association of Amusement Parks.
