Bill Schulz is senior principal of ima, a landscape architectural practice that combines quality design ethic and solid business skills for leading national and international business owners, cities, and real estate developers.
As a senior designer and landscape architect with nearly 35 years experience, Schulz’s broad experience includes planning, design and project supervision of more than $15 billion of new and updated construction, including resorts, theme parks, new communities, retail destinations, and mixed-use residential and corporate developments.
Schulz is especially skillful at accommodating and unifying mixed use elements. Nearly every ima project uses hardscape and landscape to build an identity for its users for institutional, commercial and retail clients, resort and golf destinations, hospitality, and recreation/visitor facilities. He has a profound understanding of the strengths and attractions of specific land uses, as wells as the pedestrian, transportation and operating challenges posed by each element. He creates the critical links, plazas and passages necessary for the vitality of visitor attractions and retail uses, and carefully integrates them with complementary uses such as hotels, office and public arenas.
Schulz’s expertise extends through every aspect of the design process including programming, concept development, master planning, schematic design, final design and construction documentation. Understanding each individual project’s physical context and historical references, he designs creative and cost-effective solutions that contribute to the overall success of a project. His captivating designs are internationally recognized for their artistry and sustainability, and his proven client relationships stand as testament to his dedication and performance. His experience includes: Resort Cove, Saudi Arabia, which includes 14 acres of town center, golf resort, Mosque, office, community facilities, and restaurant/retail; Desert Ridge Marketplace in Phoenix, AZ; Los Angeles International Airport Beautification Project; and The Walt Disney Company’s New Tomorrowland at Disneyland and Disney’s Animal Kingdom/Asia in Orlando, Florida. Formerly, Schulz directed the landscape design for a number of destination golf and resort facilities including the seaside Palmilla Resort and the 1,800 acre Cabo Del Sol Resort and Golf Club in Los Cabos, Mexico. A career milestone was achieved in 2004 when a landmark project, the Inland Empire Utilities Agency, was designated a LEED Platinum 2.0 Award Winner from the USGBC.
Throughout his career, Schulzhas provided service to public and private clients internationally over a number of years. This has included living in the Middle East for a period of time to oversee construction of landscape projects.
